"Lay thy head to rest, souls quickly spent
The world has fallen, left no means to its end
A harrowed sea bathed in neon light
Steel yourself. Metal tends to bite."

Vekari: Remote Bypass is a text-based psychological horror ARG built entirely in-browser. Explore the city of Faktoria, Haloran in the vast world of Vekari, where your decisions shape the world around you.

An entire city controlled by one man in power, with a dark secret. Stolen research, mysterious magical puzzles, and a looming threat towards the band that mocked him and anyone who stands between him and his prey. A city where every decision you make has the possibility to alter the story entirely. A city where horrors lie around every dark twist and turn. A city that isn't quite what it seems to be.

Vote collectively on character parts to decide what happens next, explore the city, report your finds, read the world's history, and search for the truth behind Faktoria and the man who holds it all in the palm of his hand- before you become a piece in his game.

Vekari: Remote Bypass features an ongoing storyline and an ever-growing site, with new areas, features, dialogue, and story parts added semi-regularly. No account or downloads are required to participate.

Faktoria needs you, adventurer.

Gameplay Requirements:

If you can read this page, you should be able to play the game. The file just links to the official website.

It is playable on any device with a browser. A keyboard is needed for some puzzle/password protected areas, but otherwise is not required. You can play most of the game without it or by copy and pasting instead of typing.

How to play:

Navigates like a website, except instead of articles you'll find button dialogue options, a visual inventory, text descriptions of new places and characters, puzzles, and much more! Settings are available with different fonts, font sizes, site themes, and to replace the floating tabs on the side with one menu bar at the very top of the page for accessibility. The website itself is the game! Players are referred to interchangeably as Players or Readers, this is intentional.

I recommend beginning by reading the introduction on the home page, and then clicking the button below that section to view the Quick Start Guide.

From there, check out the Story parts using the top tab in the side menu (or first tab in the very top menu if you have turned that off) and check out the newest parts for each of the main characters. They are roughly between 500 - 1000 words apiece, and have a poll to vote on at the end. You can review older parts for the full story at any time.

Now's the part where you get to explore! You can start from a variety of places, but here are some ideas to check out:

  • Clicking Enter Faktoria in the menu will allow you to view all of the locations players have discovered to date. From here, you can explore the city yourself! Interact with characters, find new locations, solve puzzles, and work together to complete quests!
  • You can check your Quests from the side/top menu at any time. Quests progress when multiple players complete the necessary tasks, and are hidden all over Faktoria! Main quests are there to help anchor you in where the story currently is. Side quests are picked up for extra rewards, like in-game currency or special items.
  • Places mentioned in Story parts may be actual accessible places! See if you can find them! If you're stuck, review the Mechanics section of the Reader Guide for a better idea of how things may be hidden around the site
  • The Library, accessed from the side/top menu, contains useful texts as well as any music created for the game. Texts include a transcription of everything the players have done to date, for easy catching up on the full story, as well as a short text on the world of Vekari itself.

Though not required, you can get more out of the game by joining the official Discord server linked in the menu! The server has channels to report found items, characters, and places to be added to the inventory, Enter Faktoria page, or the character wiki. Important story-centric findings will be added automatically or through the counters mechanic, so anything the Discord deals with is extra!

Some Spotify playlists are included in area headers that you may play while exploring the area. Players are encouraged to make their own playlists to use while playing for added experience- build on the vibes! Make your experience your own.
